Delphi - The Center Of Ancient Greece
Freedom means rented minivan vehicle with a personal driver. Discover with Greece Private Transfer all
the treasures of the region and not only!
The history of Delphi is lost in
the prehistory and myths of ancient Greeks. The earliest finds in the area date
back to 4000 BC. from Korykeon Andro
a cave of the region where the first beliefs were held.
The Ancient Greeks in Delphi honored the god Apollo and the goddess Athena
and
believed that Delphi was the navel of the earth. It was the most famous oracle of ancient Greece where according
to mythology the two eagles sent by Zeus from the edges of the universe met to
find the center of the world and met over its place. From the 6th to the 4th
century the oracle experienced its greatest prosperity. Pythia was the Jerusalem of the Temple of Apollo and gave the
oracles and their priests interpreted them. Many people rulers of that era and
even entire cities came to its oracle. The power of the oracle however created
two holy wars of the time. The flowering of the most famous oracle lasted until
the second century AD. With the prevalence of Christianity the oracle was
neglected and in the 7th century AD was filled. The excavations to return to
the surface began in 1890 and found important finds for the ancient public life
of that time.
During your tour of Delphi you will have the chance to see the Kastalia Fountain the source which
washed those who wanted to visit Pythia to receive its oracle, the Dome of Athena Pronaia and the Treasure of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo the most important
monument of the area, the Holy Road
leading to the Temple of Apollo, the
Ancient Stadium of Delphi, the Ancient Theater and the archaeological museum of Delphi.

capital of the Greek state and the most charming city of the Peloponnese is one of the favorite
destinations for all seasons of the year. The old town of Nafplio with the preserved mansions and the two Venetian castles, Palamidi which stands on a huge rock and overlooks the sea and Akronafplia which for many years
functioned as a prison.
Admire Nafplio
from above climbing the 999 steps leading to the imposing Palamidi castle. Walk the Arvanitia
pedestrian walkway that surrounds the rock of Akronafplia with the sea
under your feet. Browse the old town of Nafplio full of traditional taverns,
cafe-bars overlooking the imposing Bourtzi,
find yourself in the cobblestone Syntagma
Square and you will feel like you are in another era. Here is the Archaeological Museum, the Parliamentary house that housed the
first parliament of the free Greek state, the Old Mosque and the Museum of rosary.
The alleys
around this street are full of Turkish fountains and Turkish baths and
historical churches such as the Holy
Temple of Saint Spyridon where Ioannis (Antonios) Kapodistriasthe first prime minister of Greece was murdered.
The seafront promenade will be unforgettable with a view of Bourtzi. This whole region has a great

the Holy Temple. You also find a funerary monument dedicated to the hero
Pelopi, the Pithaneio, the administrative building of the sanctuary, and the
beautiful circular building that was dedicated by Philip II the king of
Macedonia. The rest of the area was full of altars, statues of gods and heroes,
statuettes of the Olympians, tributes to eminent individuals and Greek cities,
among them the famous Peony Prize.
There was also
the gymnasium and the pallet, the
training rooms, the workshop of Pheidias,
the Greek baths with the swimming pool, the Roman baths, the Theokoleon (the home of the priests)
and Leonidio the hostel of the

Among the
imposing volumes of Pindos and Antiochasia are the sacred rocks of Meteora and the city of Kalambaka. Meteora thanks to its
uniqueness is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On the tops of
sandstone rocks in harmony with the natural landscape 24 monasteries were built
during the Christian time. It is an important monument of Orthodoxy the most
important monastic state after Mount Athos and has continued tradition for
about six centuries. The first monasteries were built with extraordinary craftsmanship
in the 14th century. Over the years some of them have been reconstructed until
they are in their present form with their own architecture. The ascent earlier
was done with scaffolding supported by beams embedded in the rocks with a net
and later with ladders. Today visitors use the stairs that were carved on the
rocks ensuring a comfortable and safe climb to the monasteries.
Only 6 of the
24 monasteries now operate while the remaining 15 are dilapidated. You will
have the opportunity to visit 2 or 3 of these monasteries that will be open to
the public.
