Also included, informative local knowledge, historic story-telling and for no extra cost plenty of laughs and great music! That last point is open to debate!

Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours, as the name suggests gives you the opportunity to discover more !
While our main attraction is Wineglass Bay. we have included in your tour some hidden extras. Visit Rosny Hill Lookout, a vantage point from which you will be treated to expansive views of the Derwent River, Hobart City and the ever present kunanyi, Mount Wellington. Take a moment to imagine what a sanctuary this harbour must have been for the early ocean explorers. With the early settlers in mind, your tour passes through the Coal River Valley, now home to some of Tasmania’s most popular wineries.
On this route Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours gives you the opportunity to visit the historic Georgian township of Richmond. We stop at Richmond Bridge, the oldest convict constructed bridge still in use in Australia. Set in picturesque surrounds, complete with friendly ducks, the Richmond Bridge is a testament to Tasmania’s convict heritage; a man-made structure of unique beauty and timeless strength.
From Richmond we head east to the Great Eastern Drive into the township of Buckland, home to the Church of John the Baptist, built by convicts in 1846 from local sandstone. Learn the story behind its spectacular stained glass windows. Onward through farmland, forest and riverside roads we reach the East coast at Orford. Here we stop at Raspins Beach where you can enjoy majestic views across Prosser Bay to Maria Island and listen to a tale or two of the early goings-on of this little island.
Back on the Great Eastern Drive you will enjoy spectacular coastal views and pass by more pristine beaches including Spiky Beach and the convict constructed Spiky Bridge. As the mountains of the Hazards come into view you will know we are nearing our destination. After a refreshment stop at Swansea, a great place to buy lunch, it’s on to the Freycinet Peninsula.

Freycinet National Park
Here you will spend over 4 hours exploring this unique National Park including our highlight, the 45 minute walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout. It is suggested you wear comfortable shoes and bring a drink bottle of water. The track is superbly constructed and the incline is steady but walk at your own pace for the journey is as beautiful as the destination.
Be surprised by the wildlife emerging from the undergrowth, absorb the majesty of the mountains above and wonder at the balancing boulders then take a well-deserved stop halfway to catch your breath and take in the views of Great Oyster Bay. With one final ascent you will discover the beauty of Wineglass Bay. Cameras and smiles ready! Here we will spend ample time to enjoy the view before walking back as a group. If you would like to walk down to Wineglass Bay Beach, this can be arranged with your guide in advance. Bear in mind this is a steeper track requiring a higher level of fitness.
Enjoy lunch either at one of the local beaches or at one of the popular winery on the east coast. You may even encounter some of the friendly native animals (but do not share your lunch with them)! If Seafood is your fancy a stop at the Marine Farm can be arranged. Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours will then take you to locations such as Friendly Beaches. This wild stretch of coastline is a favorite spot for surfers and fishermen alike. Enjoy more spectacular coastal views from Cape Tourville Lookout. You might even spot some marine wildlife.
Discover bull kelp forests and natural rock sculptures at Sleepy Bay and find peace and tranquility at the aptly named Honeymoon Bay, a great spot for a swim if you are keen.
Truly a spectacular day of exploring! And before you decide to stay forever immersed in this beautiful place…there is ice-cream and other tasty treats to enjoy at Kate’s Berry Farm! Your guide will then return you safely to your accommodation in Hobart. Airport drop offs on return can be arranged in advance at no extra cost.
