For this plant-based cooking workshop, we will be utilising recipes from a number of different Asian cultures, with a focus on cooking traditions created to support a plant-based diet. Whether from the Sattvic vitality increasing diet of India or Buddhist temple foods from Korean and Japan, we will be showing you both nutritious and tasty dishes from a variety of cultures that have been creating plant-based foods for centuries.
Vegan food doesn’t have to be the drab, flavourless, meat imitating concoctions we are used to seeing in pop culture and the mainstream. Looking to cultures with a rich history in plant-based cooking, we have crafted this cooking class with a coexisting balance between taste and what is healthy for the body, mind and planet.
The course will run instructions through our own recipes. We will discuss how to plan plant-based meals at home and the overriding philosophies, both nutritional and mindful, underpinning Asian traditions of vegan cooking. We will also be showing you how to organise you and stock your kitchen, to make crafting excellent plant-based meals an easy and enjoyable experience.
This class is suitable for people who want to enhance their home cooking skills with new techniques, or for professional or aspiring chefs who are looking to enhance their plant-based repertoire. Well organised and we were well guided by our teacher with plenty of opportunity for us to try our hand at the craft. Loads of fun and plenty of laughs and a cracking good feed at the end of it. I love the fact that Chef Ha explains the reasons for the cooking techniques, example: why is it better to char the vegetables, or the reasons why we use a specific type of sugar. I also like his friendly & approachable nature. Over all, the cooking lesson is a worthy investment of time.

Our team got together for our End of year Christmas break up and did a dumpling making course. The venue was great and in a central location, our teacher Dylan was fantastic, didn't go too fast and made sure everyone was on track and most of all the food was amazing. Team Challenge Masterchef Competition

Masterchef is the topic people often talk about and this is our most popular format. Your colleagues will break into teams, choose fresh ingredients from our pantry, then cook the most flavorsome and visually appealing dishes to take the crown. This style of cooking challenge would encourage a solid relationship between you and each of your team members, it's time to help them collaborate effectively.
Part of the building trust amongst your team members is letting them share their ideas and knowledge. They need to trust that you're prepared to speak up for all of your team members when needed and will support them whenever necessary. Teams that work well together have better problem-solving abilities and know-how to utilize each team member's unique background and skills. This allows them to achieve the best possible results.
In this challenge, teams will need to work together to plan, cook, compete and win, making this an ideal team building event. There’s a role for everyone, from head to sous to prep chefs, stylists, marketers, you name it. Even those who can’t cook will find a way to get involved. HIGHLIGHTS Empower your team to come up with new ideas Develop relevant skills with laughter Give your team a boost while giving back Demonstrate how each member of the team matters Get cultural and explore food and cooking skills. TIMELINE After enjoying some small bites upon arrival, guests will head into combat where they will be divided into different groups. The team will be creative and innovative to think broadly and with an open mind in a group from 3 to 5 people, they will start a new dish without recipes - they can still use the internet!
In this challenge, teams will need to work together to plan, cook, compete and win, making this an ideal team building event. There’s a role for everyone, from head to sous to prep chefs, stylists, marketers, you name it. Even those who can’t cook will find a way to get involved.
All plates are judged by our judges (or a guest judge chosen by you), based on taste, appearance and sales pitch. The event culminates with a shared meal with complimentary wine and beer. A few added twists from our master of ceremonies will help to create a memorable evening of laughter and rivalry - And if your group is as talented as they are courageous, you will enjoy all delightful dishes. The event duration will be 3 hours. MENU SAMPLES

BOOKING TERMS A minimum charge of $1,650 is applied to all group and venue bookings. If your group number falls below the minimum spend, the minimum spend is applied. A deposit of 10 seats or 50%, whatever is greater, is required to confirm your booking. Payment may be made via credit or debit card, cash or invoice. Full payment is required at the event booking time, within 3 weeks of the event date. The balance is due 21 days before the event upon confirmation of the guest number and their dietary requirements. If cancellation is made with more than 14-day notice, we will refund 50% of your deposit. For a cancellation is made within 14 days, no refund will take effect, and you will have to pay for the minimum spend. If your group voluntarily leave or does not show up to the event on the day, no refund will take effect. Final numbers and dietary requirements for your session must be confirmed no later than 14-day prior to the start time of the cookery session in order to give us enough time to pre-order the necessary ingredients and roster staff.

Guests will be given kitchen orientation guiding them through basic kitchen techniques. A chef will make the introduction then we will go over the lesson content of the day. All ingredients and utensils of good quality and ready to go.
Big screen available to watch the teacher cook from your table.
The dishes we made were delicious.
The teacher came around to answer questions, check on progress and taste the dish to see if any further seasoning was needed.
Only thing lacking that might have been nice was some more explanations about the ingredients being used, best places to buy them, how to store them or substitutes if you struggle to find them.
Overall a really enjoyable night and I would definitely come back, thanks!

My husband and I did the Chinese cooking class with Dylan, and we absolutely loved it. Not previously being the biggest fans of Chinese food, we took the class out of curiosity. We learnt all about the different types of cuisine and the different regions of China in a relaxed atmosphere. We ended up loving the food we made (which was Sichuan) and had a great night. This was a great hands-on cooking class, where we made three dishes from scratch and completed a fourth where the instructor provided the base ingredients due to time constraints. Our instructor, Dylan, was great and happily answered all our questions and provided lots of background information about Vietnamese cuisine and culture. We were able to take our leftovers home and they provided me with my meals for the next two days. I was given this class as a Christmas present and had a wonderful time. I will definitely be adding these delicious dishes to my regular meals when cooking at home.

I attended the Japanese Cooking Masterclass at Otao Kitchen as a single participant and found the experience to be very enjoyable.
The class time took approximately 3 hours and working in pairs, we prepared Makizushi-sushi rolls, okonomiyaki and ramen noodles. We then enjoyed eating what we ate with a drink.
The instructor, Chef Dylan was very knowledgeable and ran a good class. I feel confident that I will be able to recreate the dishes prepared during the class in my own kitchen. I definitely plan to attend another class in the future at Otao kitchen. Joel Jackson • Feb 2023

The class was laid out exceptionally well and we moved with efficiency, care and detail through so many dishes - I was quite amazed. Our teachers were direct, ready for questions and so wonderfully helpful. The style of the lessons were open, cohesive and user friendly.
The venue was incredibly clean, well maintained and prepared and the atmosphere with a little background music, lighting and joviality was fantastic. Thank you! If anything, I was the only one in the class who printed my menu and brought it into class to make notes as we went along and because of how many dishes we made I found it to be extremely helpful in arranging my thoughts and keeping track of what we had created and what were the tidbits we were learning.
