Cycling in Plovdiv

About
Make the most out of your stay in Plovdiv by cycling through its streets and seeing the sites up close. Go through our beautiful city feeling like a local. Highlights 3-hour cycling experience with a guide Cycle the city streets and absorb the local atmosphere Enjoy a flexible itinerary and route tailored to your fitness levels and interests An ideal tour for individuals, couples and families A small-group size allows for individualized attention Description
Cycling has always been a more preferred form of traveling for short distances. The mobility of a bike gives you the chance to see well-known locales from a new perspective and opens up their more remote corners to deeper exploration. And since you control the pace, you’re free to stop at a friendly café or roadside market whenever you like, or turn that rolling field you just passed into an impromptu picnic spot.
Let us take you on a blissful experience roaming through the 890 cycle routes, from uphill to downhill or flat routes. On your three-hour cycling tour you will get to experience the city as a local and the first place on our cycling trip will be the Rowing Canal that is 2200 meters long, 120 meters wide and three meters deep. There is a park and fresh food stands as well.
From then on go on a journey to the Youth Hill . It is the highest and largest hill in the city and has an uphill route and a flat route depending on whether you want to reach the top or just go around the hill. The Youth Hill also has a very beautiful and wide grassland that is the perfect place to rest, get reinvigorated and have a picnic.
No Plovdiv experience is complete without having a walk or, in our case, a biking adventure through the King Simeon garden right at the start of the center, where the locals go for a jog, the kids play and everyone gets their dose of physical activity for the day. We will cycle through the garden and pass by the singing fountain that is a frequented meeting place for the locals, also known for its colorful light show and music.
If you're an avid cyclist and are ready to move on from the city to the mountain, check out our mountain biking tour of the Rhodopes, Rila and Pirin mountains. The price includes An experienced guide The price does not include Bicycles Notes
This tour is for individual tourists, couples or a family of no more than 5 people.

Description

With an hour's drive we reach the Sitovo Rock Sign - the text carved in a rock niche is dated to about 8000 years old and is the oldest text found in the world, hence the nearby village of Lilkovo starts our journey and with a moderate climb on macadam and forest road we enter the centuries-old Rhodope forests.

After about 3 km we go to the ridge of the mountain where we will be able to see some very beautiful sights. The road we will be taking enters the forest and soon starts a moderately steep and short descent on the remains of an ancient road, after a small meadow a moderate steep climb begins. The forest thins out along the way and the slope decreases, we go out on a wide and survey meadow, the road is pleasant and without a slope.

Soon we will arrive at our spot for the lunch at an alpine dairy farm. After the lunch we will go on our journey with a moderate climb, but soon the slope decreases and on a fairly equal road along the wide ridge of the mountain we reach the remains of a medieval monastery. Asphalt road starts descending to a small resort area from where starts a moderate climb about 800m long on an asphalt road in a mixed forest, after which the route descends through vast meadows and coniferous forests along a 6 km forest road, which leads to the village of Yavrovo.

There is a nice downhill course along the asphalt road, all of which reveal panoramic views in all directions. As the Asen's fortress reaches 250m, the cycling of the day ends. The medieval fortress and the church are explored, followed by a short transfer (30 minutes) to the hotel in Plovdiv.

Highlights
• Bike through picturesque forests
• Enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful scenery in the Rhodope mountains
• Visit the atmospheric Orehovo Village
• See the famous Sitovo Rock Inscription – a ancient inscription, the meaning of which remains a mystery to historians and linguists alike Description
Day 1
We’ll meet up in Plovdiv at 9 AM. From there our driver will take us to the village of Dedovo – the starting point of our mountain biking tour.
Our mountain biking in Bulgaria’s Rhodope mountain begins with an ascent up the dirt roads and paths to the south of the village, through which we’ll enter one of the largest and most interesting areas in the Rhodope mountains – Chernatitsa. We’ll continue until we reach the Ravnishta lodge, where we can take a short break. From there we’ll continue up a dirt road through the Rhodope forests. 10 km ahead is the highest point of our biking tour – the mountain ridge. We’ll take another short break here and enjoy the scenery.
We’ll move on with a pleasant descent to the area of the Belocherkovski Monastery. We’ll stop at the Bash Dairy Farm, where we’ll take a longer lunch break. Once everyone has had their lunch, we’ll continue on towards the final point of today’s tour – the village of Orehovo. From there we’ll be able to see the gorgeous landscapes of Snezhanka Peak, Mechi Chal Peak, Mount Golyam Perelik and Persenk Peak. We’ll finish off our cycling for the day with a ride down a several-kilometer-long path packed with fun and scenic sections. Day 2
We’ll start the day with a 12-kilometer ascent up a dirt road towards Persenk Peak. Once we’ve reached the top, we’ll stop for lunch, after which we’ll continue on our way down the dirt road. This section of the route is mostly descending.
We’ll pause for a break once we reach Sitovo Village, and then we’ll take a detour to its chief attraction – the Sitovo Rock Inscription. The Sitovo inscription is and ancient inscription carved into the side of a cliff that has stumped historians since its discovery, it meaning remaining an enigma. The Thracians believed that this area had a powerful energy field, which is why they chose it as the site of one of the most mysterious Thracian sanctuaries. We’ll leave plenty of time for pictures and to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding area to its fullest.
We’ll take a dirt road to the Rhodope Ravno area. Its name means “even”, but the name is in jest more than anything – it consists of alternating upwards and downwards slopes. It should take us a couple of hours to reach Boykovo Village, where this part of our adventure comes to an end.
The final stop for the day is Dedovo Village. It’s only 5 km away, with little denivelation.
