We will start our private tour of the Douro Valley in a luxurious Mercedes 320 S Class, with great safety and comfort. First stop in city of Amarante, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a visit to the Cathedral of São Gonçalo de Amarante XVI sec. and the local monumental bridge.
The delicious regional almond and egg sweets accompanied by coffee, latte, or tea, etc. before heading to Sabrosa to visit a farm producing gold prizes internationally awarded DOC Table and Port wines, with a detailed explanation of production methods, grape varieties used and tasting of the various qualities produced there. It will be time for lunch in a typical restaurant and then we will go down to the Douro river in Pinhão for a 1 hour ride on a typical Rabelo boat. Then we will go up to a viewpoint classified as the 7th most beautiful viewpoint in the world. A visit to another internationally awarded Quinta Museum will offer travelers tastings of Wines, Olive Oils, Honey and accompaniments, and a demonstration of the oldest and most traditional olive oil and wine production techniques. At harvest time, we can enter the wine press and do the traditional treading of the grapes, and try cutting some bunches of grapes. The formidable terraced slopes with vineyards in alignments of rare beauty will leave travelers with a great and unforgettable memory for life in photos or movies. It remains to return to Porto by sunset.
