In this tasting you’ll sample wines and hear stories about Coal Pit, Hawkshead, Kinross Valli and Wild Irishman, learning about the legends who kicked off Pinot Noir production in Central Otago and what it is that makes this place such a big figure on the world stage. Expect boutique local favourites and global superstars.

Valli's Gibbston vineyard is next door to Kinross, growing some of the best Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines that Gibbston has ever seen. Grant Taylor's name is synonymous with Central Otago Pinot Noir and is one of NZ's most awarded Pinot Noir winemakers. Most famous for winning the trophy for 'Best Pinot Noir' at the one of the world's largest wine competitions in London, not once, but four times – a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world.


An Otago native, Grant's wine journey began 18 years before establishing Valli, in Napa, California where he helped establish two different world renowned wineries and at the same time becoming a renowned winemaker. Upon his return to New Zealand, he became the first winemaker at Gibbston Valley Winery. During the past 19 years he has made the first wines for a number of iconic Otago wineries, but now concentrates on Valli, alongside his talented Head Winemaker, Jen Parr.
Valli was established in 1998 with the aim of creating true representations of Otago's subregions; Bendigo, Waitaki, Bannockburn and Gibbston. Grant and Jen express these with unflinching intensity and purity, it was also a first for the region – no one had attempted to capture, let alone master the developing subregional plot that has now begun to unfold as the next exciting chapter in the Otago wine story. This wine experience will immerse you in the stunning world of Valli wine.

This award winning wine experience is for the serious wine lovers who are keen to slow down and enjoy an in-depth immersion into the Central Otago wine world. Our internationally trained WSET Wine Advisors will lead a journey into some of the hero varietals produced here, exploring different sub-regions, producers and the journey from vine to glass.
Expect premium drops from our wine partners, as well as some small batch vintages, wine club exclusive wine and something special from our library.

Behind the scenes wine tour where our internationally trained wine advisors lead you on a journey through our site in Gibbston. You will have the opportunity to learn about our vines, soil & climate conditions that lead to the magic in your glasses. During the experience you will enjoy a selection of six carefully crafted wines which showcase the Central Otago sub regions.
