Weekend High Tea add-on Castle Tour
Step into a bygone era at
Overnewton Castle, a magnificent Scottish baronial homestead built in 1849.
Nestled amid four acres of enchanting, manicured gardens and framed by sweeping
valley vistas, this heritage-listed estate invites you to indulge in a truly
graceful afternoon.
Begin your High Tea experience with a sparkling toast, then delight in an
exquisite array of delicate pastries, warm, freshly baked scones, dainty
English tea sandwiches, and artful petite fours — all served in either the
stately Grand Ballroom or the intimate, richly appointed Sherry Room. Your
table will be graced with bottomless pots of fragrant Twinings Tea and fine
Vittoria Coffee, poured with classic hospitality.
Built by prominent early settler William Taylor, this 175-year-old jewel of
Keilor whispers stories of pastoral pioneers, elegant gatherings, and a rich
local history. For those who wish to delve deeper, an optional grand tour
reveals the castle’s splendid interiors across both levels, its architectural
treasures, and the colourful tales of those who once called it home.
Only twenty minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Overnewton Castle offers an authentic
country escape — where the romance of the past comes alive, and every sip feels
touched by history.

Weekend High Tea Menu - Aristocratic Fare for the Curious
Our menu is thoughtfully crafted to be an authentic exploration into the
refined tastes of aristocrats from bygone eras, offering a delightful glimpse
into the grandeur of the past.
Succulent Chicken, Chives, Mayonnaise & Lettuce
Inspired by elegant poultry salads enjoyed at noble banquets
Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese,
Capers & Dill
Though smoked fish has been eaten for centuries, pairing smoked salmon
with soft cheese on dainty bread slices gained popularity through European
aristocracy, considered quite an indulgence.
Classic Cucumber, Egg & Mayonnaise
Perhaps the most iconic of all afternoon tea sandwiches,
cucumber sandwiches became popular among the English upper class during
the Victorian era. They showcased not only refinement but also
wealth, since hothouse cucumbers were once a luxury.
Slow Cooked Beef Brisket Pie
A hearty classic with roots in British culinary tradition, from medieval
tables to colonial homesteads.
Pumpkin & Cheese Risotto Arancini
Arancini are traditional Sicilian rice balls, once enjoyed as
portable delicacies, they celebrate rustic roots & culinary artistry.
Assorted Quiches
Quiche traces back to the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, where it was a
celebrated staple at royal gatherings and lavish soirées.
French Macaroons
Famously refined at Versailles for Queen Marie Antoinette,
these almond-based macaroons were enjoyed in Italy and brought to
France by Catherine de’ Medici’s chefs when she married King Henry II.
Petit Eaton Mess Topped with Berries
A playful classic born at Eton College after a rumoured tumble
while carrying a pudding. This favoured dessert is often served at
aristocratic cricket matches graced by royalty.
Zesty Lemon Cream Tartlet
Citrus fruits, once an exotic luxury in Europe, were cultivated in
the private gardens of kings and queens n the 16th century with
lemon fillings served at royal feasts.
Freshly Baked Scones
Classic with Jam & Cream |
Crispy Cheese & Chives with Butter | Raspberry & White Chocolate
The word “scone” is thought to come from the Stone of Scone, the
ancient coronation stone upon which Scottish kings were crowned. Scones
rose to prominence alongside the invention of afternoon tea by Anna, the
7th Duchess of Bedford, in the 1840s, quickly becoming the star of
aristocratic tea tables across Britain.
