Zealandia by Night - Trade

Explore the sanctuary by torchlight as your guide leads you in search of some of the more distinctive sights and sounds of New Zealand’s native forest. Experience many of the rare and endangered species and see those which only come out at night. See unique species such as wētā, glow worms, and tuatara. Your group may see some of the 150 little spotted kiwi who call Zealandia home - sightings of kiwi are common on these tours (circa 80%), but are not guaranteed. Gain insights into New Zealand’s natural history and the significance of the unique species within Māori culture. The tour will end with a replenishing cup of hot kawakawa (bushman’s tea) in the Visitors Centre.

Twilight Tour - Trade

Discover the awe of twilight at Zealandia, as the sanctuary transforms from daylight to night during this special guided experience. You will have an opportunity to experience the dusk chorus sung by a cacophony of native New Zealand birds. Experience a flurry of activity as a range of resident birds return to their nests, against the magical backdrop of the dusk sky and the calm forest environment. You may even experience the first sights and sounds of the nocturnal birds, such as kiwi and ruru (morepork / owl) as they wake. Twilight Tours are an unforgettable, immersive experience, which will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired.
*Kiwi sightings occur occasionally on Twilight Tours. Your best opportunity to see kiwi whilst they are most active is on a Zealandia By Night tour.

Zealandia at Dawn - Trade

Experience a tranquil early morning in the sanctuary, where the songs of tīeke and hihi mark the beginning of a new day.
Your guided tour begins in the early morning, just as the sanctuary’s nocturnal residents retreat to their burrows. As the valley awakens, feel the crisp winter air invigorate your senses while you take in the peaceful surroundings. With the valley all to yourself, enjoy an exclusive and undisturbed experience. Listen to Zealandia's beautiful morning concert as the birds flit about in cheerful chatter.
Your tour group pauses in the forest for a hot cup of kawakawa tea, offering a moment of quiet reflection to reconnect with nature.
After the tour, reward your early start with a delicious breakfast at Rātā Café!
Breakfast includes à la carte breakfast with a barista-made coffee or hot drink at the café, and can be added at a separate cost during the booking process.
