This course is for anyone who wants to experience the underwater world or anyone who wants an introductory course prior to enrolling in the Open Water Scuba Course. If you decide to become an Open Water Diver within six months, the cost of your SDI Scuba SDI Scuba Discovery Course will be discounted from your SDI Open Water Course.

We have a number of dedicated spearo charters with destinations in the Hauraki Gulf. We target certain species to maximise your fun, so that all levels of experience are welcome. No fish? then we move onto a new location. Catch a feed and take it home.
These trips typically start at 08:30 and run all day until 16:00 or until you get too tired! Depths are optional and can be chosen to your capabilities. Short trips by boat allows you the freedom of moving from reef to reef, all in easy access from Auckland.
This area provides excellent diving in depths not too challenging for those who are new to the sport but at the same time still providing an abundance of fish species, including Snapper, Butterfish & Kingfish.

For those of you who are less experienced we can take you to the spots where the reefs are in easy reach usually around Kawau Island & the surrounding area. Weather conditions and numbers will affect destination choice. Charters are an all day event from our dedicated boat. We do not do this on scuba as this is a dedicated freediving style charter only.

Our success rate is high but it is down to the customer to shoot the fish, we do not get them for you. Please be aware sharks are common in New Zealand when hunting, whilst not a major threat they will be around.

This is an exciting action packed day for the keen hunter!

Goat Island or Te Hāwere-a-Maki is a tiny island (approximately 1 hectare or 2.5 acres) in New Zealand located close to the North Island coast, north of Auckland, northeast of Warkworth, and directly west of Little Barrier Island. Be surrounded by huge snappers, red moki lively kelp forests and try to spot as many nudibranchs and eagle rays as you can!

Just south of Leigh you can find Matheson Bay . This is one of our most popular and easily accessible shore dives. We usually find heaps of octopus, nudibranch, snapper, seahares, stingrays, eagle rays and more interesting critters at this spot!
Flat Rock is located on the south west side of Kawau Island. The impressive underwater topography makes it one of the best dive sites in the area. Think about deep ridges, healthy kelp forests, groups of rays and even bronze whaler sharks! This dive site is suitable for open water divers and advanced divers. Kawau Island has many more amazing dives to offer, such as Trade Me Reef and the Rewa wreck, suitable for open water divers who like to have a shallow and relaxed experience.

Set on a remote peninsula, Tāwharanui Regional Park boasts some of the Auckland region’s most beautiful white sand beaches. See sting rays, crays & large snapper fish. These protected areas are safe & free from strong currents & suitable for all abilities.

New Zealand Diving offers a one day charter with two dives. Dive from our boat Midnight diver and get to see areas unreachable from the shore, or do two shore dives and enjoy a nice lunch and surface interval on the beach. These are excellent dive sites for certified divers, whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver. Included in the price is all rental equipment, 2 dives and a dive guide.

Both the wrecks are deep dives, requiring minimum dive guidelines. We require you to have 15 logged dives for either wreck and an Advanced Certificate, unless you are guided by an instructor as part of your course. New Zealand Diving run a number of courses at these sites.
The HMNZS Tui and HMNZS Waikato are large navy vessels specifically prepared for adventure diving before being sunk at diver friendly depths. Purpose cut access and exit points allow exploration of guns, bridges, control areas, helicopter hangar, engine rooms, cabins and crew areas.
THE HMNZS TUI
The former HMNZS Tui is resting at a depth of approximately 32m of water. The Tui is now broken into three main sections and rapidly becoming part of the reef itself. She makes for an interesting and scenic dive, however, her location can be a little exposed to winds and current. There are currently no marker buoys locating her position and surface support is required.

THE HMNZS WAIKATO
The frigate ex HMNZS Waikato was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Ireland, launched on February 18 1966, and commissioned into the Royal New Zealand Navy on September 5, 1966.
At 113.4m long, 12.5m beam and a draft of 5.5m she was the first of the Leander class frigates built for the navy. She had a top speed of 30 knots, and was powered by twin steam turbines developing 30,000hp.
The Waikato was armed to the teeth, sporting twin 4.5in guns in the turret, two 20mm Orlikeon machine guns on the wings, a quad Seacat anti-aircraft missile launcher, six 12.75m anti-submarine torpedo tubes, one anti-submarine warfare Limbo mortar Mark 10 and a Wasp Helicopter capable of delivering depth charges and the Mark 46 anti-submarine torpedo.
She served the RNZ Navy until decommissioning in 1998. Tutukaka Coast won the tender and prepared the ship for divers during 1999/2000. Finally the ship was sent to her final resting place on the 25th of November 2000 in a world record time of 2 min 40 seconds.
She now rests in water 28-30m deep to the sand and approximately 15-20m to the starboard side of the wreck.
The Waikato is now broken into two sections, resting on her port side. She provides an easy penetration dive often with clear water, making her an ideal training site.

Canterbury was decommissioned at the end of March 2005 and after extensive works to remove potentially toxic materials, she was scuttled on 3 November 2007 at Deep Water Cove in the Bay of Islands to provide a dive wreck.
The HMNZS Canterbury is 113 metres long and at 13 metres in beam, a fraction wider than the Waikato. She was sunk as an artificial reef having been cleaned of all hazardous materials and setup as a divers training site.

The HMNZS Canterbury was prepared with divers in mind; plenty of extra access points have been created to provide an ease of entry and exit, this makes for some particularly good penetration and swim through opportunities.

The wreck sits completely upright and fully intact, and her position in Deep Water Cove is protected in most conditions. She lies at a depth of between 12 metres at the middle funnel, and 38 metres at the stern, where visibility can range between 8 and 30 metres.

The upper decks are easily accessible at 22-27m deep with plenty to see and explore. Those of you with the correct certifications can explore the interior of the wreck or make the most of nitrox diving.

The charter includes 2 x tank dives and gear hire based on single tank dives. Twin sets are available providing you have the certifications for this equipment. This is an advanced dive site so minimum of deep certification will apply to the outer deck areas.

The Rainbow Warrior was built in 1955, in Aberdeen, Scotland, as a trawler named Sir William Hardy, and entered service with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. She served until 1977 when she was put up for sale by the Ministry. She was acquired by Greenpeace at a cost of £40,000 and underwent a four month refit. She was re-launched on April 29, 1978 as Rainbow Warrior, the first ship to serve with Greenpeace. Further modifications followed, with the replacement of the engines in 1981 and the fitting of sails in a ketch rig in 1985.
In early 1985 Rainbow Warrior was in the Pacific campaigning against nuclear testing. In May, she evacuated some 300 Marshall Islanders from Rongelap Atoll, polluted by radioactivity from past American nuclear tests at the Pacific Proving Grounds.
She traveled to New Zealand to lead a flotilla of yachts protesting against French nuclear testing at the Mururoa Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. During previous nuclear tests at Mururoa, protest ships had been boarded by French commandos after sailing into the shipping exclusion zone around the atoll.
Launching from Matauri Bay near Kerrikerri, the site is in the beautiful setting of the Cavelli Islands.

The Hammer Head Shark Experience - Scuba Diving Charter
Dive with juvenile Hammerhead Sharks, as they migrate through our waters.

Right on Auckland’s doorstep lies the Hauraki Gulf, known throughout the world as a boating paradise. For many divers, this area has a certain mystique. Many have heard of it, but few seem to know where it is or have actually dived it. Known for its Hammerhead experience, huge crayfish, and huge kingfish, this dive experience is not to be missed. Horn Rock is actually a large area of rough ground between Little Barrier and Great Barrier. Only one small rock breaks the surface; the rest of the site lies between 10 and 20 meters, dropping off the edges to over 40 meters.
New Zealand Diving run charters throughout January to March to offer divers the opportunity to encounter Hammerheads. Divers are recommended to book early as spaces are limited.

Hen and Chicken Islands - Scuba Diving Charter



Hen and Chicken Islands have a general diving depth of up to 25 m / 82 ft and is suitable for all divers. Sail Rock provides greater depths for more experienced divers. The average visibility is 10-20 metres and access to the dive site is by boat. Hen and Chicken Islands are common breeding grounds for schools of blue mao mao, sweep, trevally and silver drummer In the summer months, you will occasionally come across Kingfish as you descend these dramatic walls which drop down to boulders and gradually level out exposing cracks where you can find hidden crayfish and large yellow moray eels. There are also large kelp covered boulders that provide refuge for goatfish, red moki and demoiselles.

Little Barrier Island / Te Hauturu-o-Toi - Scuba Diving Charter


Come and enjoy a day diving in the beautiful water around Little Barrier / Te Hauturu-o-Toi with New Zealand Diving.
The rocky reefs around Little Barrier have abundant fish and invertebrate life among the kelp forests. The holes and cracks house many crayfish, perhaps the overflow from Tawharanui Marine Park and Goat Island Marine Reserve on the adjacent coast. Many large red moki often shared their holes or swam through the weed above them. Their rarer cousins, the painted moki, are also found there. Add the swarms of demoiselle and blue maomao schools over the sponge gardens and Little Barrier offers some of the best diving close to Auckland.

Because of their incredible form and biodiversity, the sea surrounding the islands has been a marine reserve since 1981.
The Poor Knights offer a huge array of marine life that can be seen over long distances because of the spectacular visibility. There are sponge gardens and gorgonian fields inhabited by a myriad of fish, shellfish, urchins and anemones. The islands’ famous arches are fascinating to explore, with countless animals competing for space on the walls. In the warmer months, squadrons of stingrays can be seen cruising the waters of the archways. Many of the subtropical fish living in the marine reserve are found nowhere else in New Zealand. They include subtropical species such as spotted black groper, mosaic moray and Lord Howe coral fish. The fish are known for their friendliness and make visiting the marine reserve a very memorable experience.

Great Barrier Island / Aotea - Full day Scuba Diving Charter



Great Barrier Island / Aotea is a rich eco-system fed by the East Auckland current that travels through the famous Poor Knights and Mokohinau Islands. The climate is sub-tropical providing temperate waters and with its colourful volcanic history, there is plenty to explore underwater. The Great Barrier (chain of islands) is 40km long by 15km wide and provides a vast array of locations to dive, suited to any level of diver.
Great Barrier has a huge range of dive sites making it an ideal destination for both scuba divers and spearfishing alike. Popular sites include broken island and the pigeons.
If you are the hunter gatherer type you can also try your hand at catching crays and taking a feed home for the family.

There are also a number shipwrecks to investigate or dive including the SS Wairarapa.
In the third worst shipwreck in New Zealand waters, 121 lives were lost when the Union Steam Ship Company steamer Wairarapa struck Miners Head, on the northern tip of Great Barrier Island, 90 km north-east of Auckland. She is now broken up and has become part of the reef, resting a depths approximately 15m deep.

Spearfishing is one of the fastest growing watersports in New Zealand and the Hauraki Gulf has some of the best spearfishing destinations to offer those keen on hunting.
Spearfishing offers a totally different experience in comparison to scuba diving, without the aid of artificial breathing apparatus and the hiss of regulators scaring all the fish away, the opportunity to encounter fish life up close and personal increases dramatically. You will get much closer and see a bigger variety of fish; you are now no longer spectators but rather participants, another predator in the food chain of life.

If you dream of exploring the big blue this specialty is for you. The SSI Deep Diving Specialty will give you the ability to safely and comfortably plan and conduct dives beyond 18 meters, and is a prerequisite for some advanced training.
Many exciting dive sites are located in deeper water. Without proper training, this kind of diving puts you at risk. Sometimes it’s a wreck that attracts you below 18 metres/60 feet, and on wall dives it may be a giant fan or sponge. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130 feet, you should take the SSI Deep Diving Specialty.
The SSI Deep Diving Specialty will give you the ability to safely and comfortably plan and conduct dives beyond 18 meters, and is a prerequisite for some advanced training.

TDI’s Sidemount Diver specialty is the perfect course for any technical diver wishing to use this increasingly popular equipment configuration, either as a ‘stand-alone’ course or in conjunction with one of TDI’s other open circuit specialties. It teaches students how to safely utilize side-mounted primary cylinders as an alternative to the traditional back-mounted method.
This course takes students through the specific techniques, planning procedures and skills that set side-mounted cylinder diving apart from the traditional back-mounted method. During the course, the TDI Instructor takes students on a minimum of three dives and covers skills such as: Equipment considerations Gas management Attaching cylinders Trim and buoyancy Deployment of surface marker Different water entries
TDI’s Sidemount Diver Specialty is a useful stand-alone course for the technical diver who wants to become more skilled and proficient with different gear configurations regardless of if he intends to use sidemount all the time. The course may also be taught in conjunction with any of TDI’s other open circuit specialty courses, on the condition that all prerequisites and standards applicable to both courses are fully met.
The maximum depth limit of this course must not exceed that of the student’s current certification, unless being taught in conjunction with another TDI course which allows a greater depth. Prerequisites to enroll on the TDI Sidemount Diver course are: Age 18, SDI Open Water Diver or equivalent. (Otherwise open water diver)
Held over 2 days this course includes theory which has the optional availability as on-line learning. Three training dives are included in the course.. Full gear hire is also included.

Who this course is for:
The certified SDI Advanced Diver (or equivalent) who is interested in learning how to dive independent of a dive buddy, or looking to strengthen your buddy team diving skills. If you like to hunt or take photography/videos, then you are effectively a solo diver.

Solo diving, once considered technical diving and discouraged by most certification agencies, is now seen by many experienced divers and some certification agencies as an acceptable practice for those divers suitably trained and experienced. Rather than relying on the traditional buddy diving safety system, solo divers should be skilled in self-sufficiency and willing to take responsibility for their own safety while diving.
One of SDI’s most popular courses, the solo diver course teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independently of a dive buddy or strengthen your buddy team skills. The course stresses on proper dive planning, personal limitations, accident prevention as well as the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo. You will also learn the additional equipment that is required for solo diving including its proper usage and assembly. This is the perfect course for underwater photography and underwater video divers as well as those diving with their children or buddies that may not be very experienced in scuba diving.

It was described as the worst maritime environmental disaster in New Zealand, and one of the world’s most complex clean-ups. Access to Astrolabe Reef / Otaiti has now been restored for vessels under 500 tonnes by the Bay of Plenty Harbour Master. This is after more than four and a half years of salvage and clean-up operations following the grounding of the MV Rena.
A lot of the old wreck has now gone and much of her has been re-colonised by shoals of fish and marine life. She is definitely a spectacular dive with plenty of swim through’s and areas to explore but the Rena represents a difficult dive. This is a charter we offer to experienced divers with a minimum of advanced or deep specialty certifications. Depths drop very sharply to 40m+ and with the possibility of strong currents the Rena can be challenging.


Astrolabe Reef is near Motiti Island, off the Bay of Plenty coast in New Zealand. The reef, which breaks the water surface at low tide, is a renowned scuba diving spot that drops off to over 40 metres (121 ft) in different parts. The reef was named by Jules Dumont d’Urville after his ship Astrolabe, when it nearly ran aground there on 16 February 1827.
The reef itself is an excellent dive site both full of life and exciting to dive. There is no shelter from the elements here and the journey can get extremely rough with only slight winds.

This 2 day dive tour includes 4 x tank dives over 2 days with full gear hire. Due to the location of the wreck this is a seasonal dive only & divers must be certified to a minimum of advanced diver or hold a deep specialty certification.

THE HMNZS TUI
HMNZS Tui, formerly USNS Charles H. Davis (T-AGOR-5), was one of nine Conrad class oceanographic ships built for the United States Navy (USN), that later saw service in the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). Serving with the USN from 1963 to 1970, these ships were designed to perform acoustic experiments on sound transmission underwater, and for gravity, magnetism and deep-ocean floor studies.
The ship was commissioned into the RNZN in late 1970, and as HMNZS Tui served as an oceanographic survey and research ship until her decommissioning in 1997. In 1999, the ship was scuttled as a dive wreck.
At 62 metres long she now lies in 30 metres of water just 2km north of Tutukaka Heads. Easily penetrated through purpose cut access points, explore the control room, bridge, crew living quarters and engine rooms via established routes. A very enjoyable dive for all levels of divers. THE RAINBOW WARRIOR

The Rainbow Warrior was built in 1955 as a trawler in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food’s fleet. The Rainbow warrior was later bought by green peace and used as a protest and research ship. At 40 meters in length she is the smallest of the three Northland wrecks but since being scuttled in Matauri Bay in the Cavalli Islands, New Zealand on 2 December 1987 the rainbow warrior is now an artificial reef teaming with life making this wreck a must on the dive list. THE HMNZS CANTERBURY
The ex-HMNZS Canterbury was scuttled on 3 November 2007 at Deep Water Cove in the Bay of Islands to provide a dive wreck and what a dive she is. Prepared with divers in mind; plenty of extra access points have been created to provide an ease of entry and exit, this makes for some particularly good penetration and swim through opportunities. The wreck sits completely upright and fully intact, and her position in Deep Water Cove is protected in most conditions. She lies at a depth of between 12 metres at the middle funnel, and 38 metres at the stern, where visibility can range between 8 and 30 metres. At 113 metres long and at 13 metres in beam this site is big enough to make you want to dive it twice! THE HMNZS WAIKATO
HMNZS Waikato (F55) was a Leander Batch 2TA frigate of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). She was one of two Leanders built for the RNZN, the other being the Batch 3 HMNZS Canterbury. These two New Zealand ships relieved British ships of the Armilla patrol during the Falklands conflict, freeing British ships for deployment.

HMNZS Waikato was purposefully sunk in November 2000 and now lies 30 metres down and bolt upright on the seabed. She has large holes cut in the side to make entry and exit very safe and less experienced divers will gain valuable wreck diving experience from the vessel. The shallowest part of the wreck is only 8 metres from the surface.

It is not uncommon to find spectacular dives at depths deeper than 39m/130 feet, however you may not have access, (or very limited access), to helium. The TDI Extended Range course teaches you the proper techniques for utilizing compressed air as a breathing gas, and with a maximum depth of 55m/180 feet you won’t have to miss those dives. The Extended Range course will cover topics and skills such as:

The TDI Advanced Wreck Diver Course is the next step for any diver that has successfully completed any Wreck Diver Course. During this course, your TDI Instructor will teach you the proper techniques for locating and planning an advanced penetration dive.
On the course you will learn:
How to use advanced wreck diving equipment including:
Primary cylinder(s)-dual outlet single tank, independent doubles, or doubles with isolation manifold Decompression/stage cylinders Redundant primary regulators Primary and back-up lighting systems Penetration/safety reels Lift bag/SMBs

The course you will complete six penetration dives into a shipwreck and receive 8 hours of classroom theory. Gear hire is available along with Nitrox gas. Course sizes are strictly limited to four students so book early.

Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 to EAN 100 % within your current certification level to a max depth of 40m. Decompression Procedures Course prepares you for planned staged decompression diving.
The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 through EAN 100 percent within your current certification level to a maximum depth of 40 metres/130 feet during dives that do not require staged decompression. Often taught in conjunction with the TDI Decompression Procedures course, this can be considered the foundation of the technical diving path.

As sport divers, planned decompression is not something that we do or have been taught.The TDI Decompression Procedures Course prepares you for planned staged decompression diving. With a maximum operating depth of 45 metres/150 feet, this course is your first step beyond the normal sport diving limits. The TDI Decompression Procedures Course combined with the TDI Advanced Nitrox course form the foundation of all other technical courses. After these two courses and some additional experience, the stage has been set for you to move onto additional technical levels.

The SDI Advanced Diver Development Program was created to make truly “Advanced Divers”. During the advanced diver development program your SDI Instructor will take you through four SDI specialties (deep, navigation, wreck, drift, peak buoyancy, etc.) covering all the skills and subjects, so that by the end you will feel comfortable conducting dives of a similar nature.
Once you have logged your 25th dive (these can included any and all training dives) visit your local SDI facility with your logbook and four SDI Advanced Scuba Diver Development specialty cards and you will be awarded the SDI Advanced Scuba Diver certification.
The course includes four certifications that be can be spread over a time period to fit into your life style, giving you up to one year to complete.

The Divemaster Course is the first professional level certification. During the course you will learn how to work with divers, lead certified divers, and act as a dive guide showing divers underwater dive sites and the marine life that inhabits those dives sites. The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor (OWSDI) course is designed to teach current Divemasters or Assistant Instructors certified with a recognized dive training organization the knowledge to effectively function as an open water scuba diver instructor. This program is divided into two sections, an instructor development course (IDC) and an instructor evaluation course (IEC).
Course prerequisites: Minimum age 18 Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months Proof of 100 logged dives completed in a number of different environments with varying depths Be certified as a SDI Divemaster, SDI Assistant Instructor, or equivalent Provide proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen provider*, where local law permits
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) teaches you how to: Schedule course. Successfully market scuba. Properly teach and design academic and in water sessions. Effectively utilize assistants.
The Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC) evaluates everything you learned during the IDC. This is typically a two day evaluation process and evaluates your abilities in: Preparing and teaching academic sessions. Knowledge of subject matter. Pool/confined water lessons. Open water lessons. Emergency management abilities.
