Bremer Island Escape - Day Trip

Embark on a truly unforgettable journey to Banubanu Beach Retreat, located on Bremer Island. This hidden gem is rich in cultural significance and natural beauty.

The island, Known as "Dhambaliya" in the Yolngu language, is steeped in history and has been home to the Yolngu people for tens of thousands of years. Its name pays homage to Matthew Flinders, who charted the coastline during his 1803 voyage.

Located just a 45-minute boat transfer from Nhulunbuy, this exclusive day trip invites you to explore one of the last untouched frontiers of the Australian coastline, where nature’s beauty takes centre stage.

Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the island's pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters, perfect for a refreshing swim or simply soaking up the sun. Discover the island’s natural wonders as you wander along scenic walking trails that showcase diverse flora and stunning coastal views.

Visit the Seabreeze Restaurant, where you can enjoy a great selection of meals, refreshing drinks, and stunning ocean views. Savour fresh, locally inspired cuisine, and make the most of the retreat’s plunge pool facilities amid the beauty of this eco-paradise.

Our transfer boat departs Gove Boat Club Boat Ramp at approximately 9.am and returns approximately by 3.30pm Wednesday to Sunday. We are bound by the tides so times may vary.

We are closed Monday and Tuesdays

Children at Banubanu

We are delighted to welcome families to Banubanu. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all guests, we kindly ask that children remain under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times while visiting the island.

Banubanu is a working retreat with natural hazards including water, uneven ground, boats, wildlife and operational areas. Children must not run through the restaurant, bar or deck areas, climb on furniture, or jump into the pool. The pool may only be used under direct adult supervision.

Please note that Banubanu is home to two resident dogs who roam freely around the island. While they are friendly and accustomed to guests, children must not chase, corner, tease, pick up, ride on, or otherwise torment the dogs. Guests are also asked not to feed the dogs, as they are on a managed diet and feeding can affect their health and behaviour.

Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring their children interact respectfully with the dogs and other guests. Banubanu accepts no responsibility for incidents arising from unsupervised interactions with animals or from children who are not adequately supervised.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. By working together, we can ensure a safe, relaxing and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting the island.

Thank you for respecting our policies and helping us preserve the unique experience we offer on Dhämbaliya (Bremer Island).
