The Weta Cave
Your gateway to incredible filmmaking in Wellington. Enjoy a 90-minute immersive experience at the legendary creative powerhouse behind The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, The Rings of Power and many more. Go behind the scenes to discover how the props, costumes, creatures and models from your favourite films were made. Visit the Weta Cave shop for collectables, prop replicas and more and enjoy a short documentary about the history of filmmaking on the Miramar Peninsula. Iconic Film Locations

Visit the filming locations for Helm’s Deep, Minas Tirith and Mount Doom. Stand on top of the Taita levee where Peter Jackson filmed in his own backyard. Your guide will bring each location to life with behind-the-scenes stories from the production. Kaitoke Regional Park — Rivendell

Travel 40 minutes from Wellington to Kaitoke Regional Park, part of the region known as Pakuratahi at the head of the valley of Te Awakairangi. The park served as the set for Rivendell, the hidden refuge of the elves, in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. Walk through the forest and recreate your favourite scenes at the filming location. No quest is complete without a proper feast. Enjoy a specially prepared meal featuring local New Zealand delicacies — a lunch worthy of the Shire, prepared by your guide.
Your tour concludes after the feast. Your guide will then drop you back at your designated hotel or at the cruise ship.
