Mount Field waterfalls and Tasting Trail

MOUNT FIELD & DERWENT VALLEY TASTING TRAIL

Escape Hobart for an active day of rainforest, waterfalls and local Tasmanian flavours. Explore Mount Field National Park on foot, walking beneath towering eucalypts and ancient rainforest to Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls. Then unwind on the Derwent Valley Tasting Trail with local cider, wine, berries and seasonal produce. With a maximum of just 13 guests and a nature-based local guide, it’s a personal and relaxed way to experience Tasmania’s wild landscapes and delicious local flavours.

Trade the city for Tasmania’s wild heart on an active day of walking, waterfalls and local flavours.

This seasonal adventure combines the natural beauty of Mount Field National Park with an afternoon exploring the Derwent Valley’s growing food and drink scene. It’s a day designed for travellers who want to get outside, experience Tasmania on foot and discover some of the local flavours that make the region special.

We’ll head west from Hobart and into Mount Field National Park, one of Tasmania’s most spectacular wilderness areas. Once we arrive, it’s time to get out and explore on foot. Wander through ancient rainforest and beneath towering eucalypts as we follow walking tracks through one of Tasmania’s most beautiful national parks.

Our walks take us to three of Mount Field’s iconic waterfalls — Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Lady Barron Falls. The walking is active and rewarding without being an extreme hiking experience, with plenty of time to stop, take photos and appreciate the rainforest around you.

With a maximum of just 13 guests and a knowledgeable nature-based local guide, the experience stays personal, relaxed and social. Along the way, your guide can help bring the landscape to life, sharing the stories, nature and character of this remarkable part of Tasmania.

After working up an appetite, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before leaving the mountains behind and heading into the Derwent Valley.

But the adventure doesn’t end when the walking does.

The afternoon becomes a relaxed Derwent Valley Tasting Trail, where we’ll discover some of the region’s local producers. Expect opportunities to sample Tasmanian cider, local wine, berries and seasonal produce, with stops such as Westerway Raspberry Farm depending on the day’s itinerary and what’s in season.

There may also be the chance to pick up a grazing platter and enjoy it alongside local cider, making for the perfect way to wind down after an active morning in the mountains.

This tour is designed for travellers who want a little bit of everything — nature, walking, waterfalls, local produce and good company. Rather than simply seeing Mount Field from the roadside, you’ll step into the rainforest, chase waterfalls and then slow things down with the flavours of the Derwent Valley.

By the time we make our way back towards Hobart, you’ll have traded city streets for rainforest trails, discovered three spectacular waterfalls, sampled Tasmanian cider and wine, and hopefully found a few new favourite local flavours along the way.

Nature, adventure, local produce and good company — experience Mount Field and the Derwent Valley in one brilliant day.
