Arrive in Ephesus and explore The Temples of Hadrian and Domition, the Fountains of Trojan, Polio, the Library of Celsius, Bouloterion, Private House, Various and Scholastic Baths, and the Great Theatre which once entertained upwards of 24,000 patrons. You will meet your guide at your centrally located Izmir hotel, and enjoy your ride with an air-conditioned coach to Pergamum, the cultural epicenter of the East Roman Empire. Explore one of Turkey’s best archaeological sites with your expert guide and discover the Acropolis ruins including the historic library, the Temples of Dionysos, and Trojan then marvel at the extreme incline of the Theatre of Anatolia.
Next, delve deep into Greek culture as you admire the beautifully carved devils and God at the gargantuan Altar of Zeus. Then, observe the Sanctuary of Demeter and the Gymnasium which rests on plateaus and the old Agora. Break for lunch of traditional Turkish fare and then head to the Archaeological Museum of Bergama. Afterwards, visit Asklepion, home to this ancient city’s Medical Center. Learn about the early psychological treatments conducted here and how they were devoted to the Asklepios, the God of health.
