The Two Cities
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a culture aficionado, or simply seeking to escape the everyday, the Two Cities Tour promises a very special experience. Although both Perth and Fremantle were established on Whadjuk Noongar country in 1829, they are each quite different cities and offer their own unique charm and allure which is showcased on this tour
Your journey begins in the heart of Perth, WA’s capital city: a bustling business and commercial hub located on the banks of the Swan River with the backdrop of Kings Park and a distinctive high-rise skyline. As you tour East Perth, the CBD and Northbridge, you'll be captivated by the harmonious blend of old and new and you will learn about the City’s historic and modern landmarks, shopping locations plus transport and dining options from your informative driver/guide.
Your first stop is Kings Park, a sprawling green space offering stunning views and a tranquil escape so close to the heart of the city. Here, you can enjoy a short stroll and take in the breathtaking vistas of Perth, the Swan River, South Perth and, in the distance, the Darling Escarpment. This is an amazing place for outdoor recreation and events, walks, picnics and incredible wildflower displays - especially in spring. Definitely somewhere you’ll want to revisit during your stay in WA.
On your way to Fremantle, you’ll make a delightful stop at Cottesloe Beach. Known for its pristine one kilometre of pure white sand and crystal-clear waters, this beautiful beach is a long-established, local favourite for swimming, snorkeling and surfing and a perfect spot to take a moment to enjoy a coffee or ice cream (your expense) and take in the beauty of the Indian Ocean coastline.
Your next stop is the much smaller city of Fremantle: located at the mouth of the Swan River, a fishing and commercial port, home to the Catholic University of Notre Dame and a market city where successive waves of settlers have left their imprint in the architecture of the early colonial, Victorian and Edwardian buildings and their cuisine in the many restaurants serving pizza, fresh pasta, seafood and gelatos.
After a brief yet very informative orientation tour including Monument Hill, Fishing Boat Harbour, the historic West End and O’Connor’s Landing: named in honour of the talented designer of the deep-water Fremantle Harbour, you can discover Fremantle on your own : visit the colonial Round House or the Shipwrecks Gallery, browse the Fremantle Markets (Fridays) or simply soak up the relaxed atmosphere and delightful architecture of the “Cappuccino Strip” as you enjoy a light lunch or some freshly- brewed coffee and cake or dine on fish and chips at the Fishing Boat Harbour (own expense).
Mid- afternoon, the tour will return you to the Perth CBD via a leisurely drive through the leafy and affluent riverside suburbs of Mosman Park, Claremont, Dalkeith, Nedlands and Crawley, home of Perth’s oldest university, before crossing the Narrows Bridge to the South Perth Foreshore for a view across the Swan River of the City skyline.
Alternatively, you can stay longer in Fremantle or South Perth and return to Perth at a time to suit you (own expense). For example, you have the option to return from Fremantle to Perth via train or a Captain Cook Swan River cruise (own expense) which can provide a scenic and relaxing end to your day. From South Perth, there is the option to return to either by ferry or bus (own expense)
