NEW! Taste of Gibbston from Queenstown by eBike (Arrowtown to Gibbston)

TASTE OF GIBBSTON from Queenstown by eBike

Arrowtown River Bridges Trail & Gibbston River Trail 1 Day | Grade 2 (Easy) | 23km

>> Shuttle to Arrowtown | Arrowtown-Gibbston | Shuttle to Queenstown

Nestled at the base of Arrowtown Hill, as its affectionately known by the locals, Arrowtown is framed by vast mountain landscapes, the crisp blue of the Arrow River, and rolling countryside.  Suiting cyclists looking for a leisurely cruise along meandering scenic trails, wine buffs keen to dive into the numerous cellar doors in Gibbston, and families looking for an achievable ride for the whole family, this tour is for you!

After joining a shuttle transfer from Queenstown to Arrowtown, enjoy a look around the historic township of Arrowtown where there is plenty to explore – historic goldmining ruins, galleries, the Lakes District Museum, shops and cafes galore.  Then it's off to join the Arrow River Bridges Trail heading east towards Gibbston.

As the name suggests, the trail follows the Arrow River and travels over numerous bridges including the staggering Edgar Suspension Bridge, before connecting with the Gibbston River Trail at the Kawarau Bungy Bridge.  Be sure to check out how many dare devils you can spot as you cross the bridge!

From there continue heading east along the trail above the Kawarau River.  There are a number of cellar doors along the trail – for ease of navigation, our trail map indicates all the wineries along the route.  Wine afficionados will look forward to great storytelling and wine tastings along the way.

Towards the end of the afternoon, navigate to Mt Rosa Wines, where the Kiwi Journeys depot is located.  There might even be time for a cooling refreshment before continuing on your way.

This grade 2 trail is a great option for families where kids can ride along on their own bike on the gentle trail, or tag along on a tow-behind or trailer.

NEW! Kawarau Gorge Trail Blazer from Gibbston with eBike & shuttle - Gibbston to Cromwell

KAWARAU GORGE TRAIL BLAZER

Kawarau Gorge Trail | 1 Day - Self-guided 39km (Grade 2-3, Intermediate)

>> Gibbston-Bannockburn-Cromwell | Shuttle to Gibbston

The most anticipated cycle trail to launch, we are excited to introduce the Kawarau Gorge Trail, a feat of trail engineering connecting Gibbston wine country with Bannockburn wine country.  Be among the first to ride the much-anticipated Kawarau Gorge Trail which connects the network of Queenstown Trails starting in Gibbston with those of Central Otago in Bannockburn.

This self-guided eBike tour includes Premium eBike rental and the return shuttle from our Cromwell depot to our Gibbston depot.

The Kawarau Gorge Trail follows the path of the early settlers who explored the region during the gold rush period. The trail defies engineering - traversing bluffs, crossing above the Kawarau River on clip-on bridges, meandering along paths that have been built and shaped to sit naturally within the challenging terrain.

Take in spectacular scenery featuring rugged rock formations, the mighty Kawarau River, and historic gold mining settlements. Ride beneath the dramatic Nevis Bluff and explore remote terrain through the gorge that was once inaccessible.

In Bannockburn, the journey continues along Felton Road, passing several of New Zealand’s most renowned wineries before connecting with the Lake Dunstan Trail. Follow the trail as it winds beside the Bannockburn Inlet toward the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, then continue on to the Kiwi Journeys depot in Cromwell in time for the shuttle back to Gibbston.

This all inclusive option makes it easy - all biking equipment and associated shuttles are included.  Just turn up and enjoy the ride!

  • Leaving Gibbston behind, stunning scenery abounds - rocky outcrops, the gushing Kawarau River, historic goldmining settlements...this trail has it all!
  • Stop in at the Goldfields Mining Centre to explore the gold mining history of the area (optional, entry not included)
  • Journey across two suspension bridges that cross the Kawarau River
  • Wind beneath the Nevis Bluff, and enjoy access to previously inaccessible terrain along the gorge
  • Stop in for a colling refreshment at Bannockburn Hotel to top off the day
  • It's just 9km on a cruisy trail around the Bannockburn Inlet to the Kiwi Journeys hub to end the day
  • From Cromwell, the Kiwi Journeys shuttle provides transport back to Gibbston
